Flower Sprouts (Kalettes) in the Air Fryer

If you like kale and Brussels sprouts, you’re gonna LOVE flower sprouts! We discovered Flower Sprouts only this year at our local farmers market. They’re almost too pretty to eat.

After some research, I came across this link all about Kalettes and their origin – they were developed in the UK in 2010 by people who wanted a new twist on kale, without the hard stalk, and who happened to work for a seed company. They’re only available from November to March, and I didn’t see them this past week at our farmers market.  But that’s OK, as eating seasonally is so important. And guess what’s just around the corner…asparagus!

Let me know if you’ve seen these where you live.

Ingredients:

  • A few handfuls of Flower Sprouts (Kalettes)
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic flakes
  • Salt and pepper QB

Instructions:

  1. Trim any browned stems (may not need to if they were recently harvested) and place the sprouts in a bowl. Add the olive oil, garlic flakes, salt, and pepper. Massage everything together with both hands.
  2. Air fry at 160°C (320°F) for 6-8 minutes, or longer if you want them crispier.
