Buying an air fryer was not my idea; it was my son’s. I didn’t agree with it, as I didn’t know anything about them and thought it was just one more appliance to clutter up our kitchen.
I told him that if he wanted it, he would need to buy it. So he ordered it.
I watched him make chicken with the Air Fryer in less than 20 minutes—I was intrigued. Then looking at the manual I saw you could cook vegetables, bread, tofu, and a bunch of other stuff! My neighbour even made a cake in hers.
He said I could use it, so I did. And quickly got hooked! As I was using it more than him, I didn’t make him pay for it.
As for some reason peanut oil is hard to find these days in Germany, we decided to try making spring rolls in the air fryer vs. deep fryer (you can also shallow fry them). Honestly, we couldn’t tell the difference. They were so good—our only regret is not making more.
Now Ralph is hooked on Air Frying too.
Ingredients for 8 rolls:
- 1 small carrot
- 1 ½ cups shredded cabbage
- 1 Tbsp coconut oil
- 1 ½ cups bean sprouts
- 2 green onions, chopped including some of the green stems
- ¾ cups (200g) diced cooked turkey
- 8 medium shrimps, peeled, deveined, and cut into small pieces
- ½ tsp Chinese 5 spice
- ½ tsp ginger powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp soya sauce
- Pepper (QB)
- 1 egg white for wash
- Spring roll pastry sheets
Condiments:
- Soy sauce with wasabi
- Sweet chilli sauce
Instructions:
- Heat coconut oil in Wok or large frying pan, then add the carrot, cabbage, and 1 cup of the bean sprouts to stir-fry until softened.
- Add in the green onions, turkey, shrimp, spices, and sauces. Stir-fry until shrimp is cooked through.
- Put everything into a bowl and let it cool down.
- Place two pastry sheets on counter, grab a tong full of the cooled filling to fill middle of triangle, fold, tuck in corners, roll, brush ends with egg wash to stick (see video for demonstration).
- Heat air fryer to 200°C (400°F). Spray or brush olive oil on both sides of rolls then place in air fryer basket in a single layer.
- Cook for 6 minutes. Turn them over, and cook another 6 minutes until they are brown and form a nice crisp (checking in between to make sure they don’t burn).
- Cool and serve with suggested condiments or your own!

I love my air fryer too!! I made my egg bites this morning for breakfast and my salmon for supper in the evening. This recipe looks yummy.
